Declan Gale logo for Auckland videographer and 2nd AC services separated by a red line

I’m Declan, a videographer based in Auckland

I shoot and edit events, branded content, short promos, and short social pieces for businesses, agencies, and artists. I also work on set as a 2nd AC, picking up solid on-set craft and working inside bigger crews.

I trained at the BRIT School in London, cut my teeth on music videos and commercials, then worked full time as a camera op and editor before moving to New Zealand.

What I can do for you

Here’s how I work across shoots, edits, and the camera department.

  • I shoot events, promos, social pieces, music bits, interviews, and other branded work.

I run solo shoots or slot into bigger crews, depending on what the job needs.

I work on Sony FX3 and FX6 setups, keeping things clean and steady.

I’m used to fast turnarounds and helping people who haven’t been on camera before feel relaxed.

  • I cut short-form pieces, reels, branded clips, event highlights, interviews, and simple long-form jobs.

I handle colour, sound, titles, basic motion, and exports for social or web delivery.

I can work from your existing footage or shoot and edit the whole job myself.

  • I slate, swap lenses, manage media, support the operator and DP, and keep builds running smoothly.

I’ve worked on music videos, short films, and commercial jobs across Auckland.

I bring my own AC toolkit and keep things calm, quick, and organised on set.

FAQs

  • Short answer: Events, short promos, social pieces, and small creative jobs.

Longer bit: I shoot a mix of branded and creative work around Auckland. That covers event coverage, short promos, interviews, social content, branded video, music-related pieces, and the odd small project. I film on Sony gear (FX3, FX6, A7) and can take a job from shoot to edit when needed.

  • Short answer: Yes and even abroad. I’m Auckland based and always keen to travel!

Longer bit: I work across Auckland in general - central spots, the inner suburbs, North Shore, West Auckland, East Auckland and South Auckland. I’ve got my own car and a full licence, so getting around is easy.

I’m also available for shoots around New Zealand, from Hamilton and Tauranga through to Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

And if the job takes me to Australia, I’m keen. Happy to jump on a flight when it makes sense for the project.

  • Short answer: I shoot on Sony and keep a solid kit for most jobs.

Longer bit: My main camera is the Sony FX3 with a 24-70 GM lens. I also run a Sony A7 II, DJI RS4 gimbal, Atomos Shinobi monitor, Aputure 300d light, Manfrotto fluid head tripod, Sennheiser MKE 600, Zoom H4n Pro and portable SSDs for fast editing. It’s a tight setup that covers events, ads, social content, interviews, and small creative shoots.

  • Short answer: Yes, but it usually comes at a cost.

Longer bit: Most projects include a finished edit, so I don’t hand over every file by default. Raw footage takes time to prep and move safely, and the files can be huge. If you need the raw stuff, please tell me at the start. I can price it in, or work out a fair compromise depending on what you actually need. No surprises, no drama.

  • Short answer: Send me a message with the basics and I’ll guide the rest.

Longer bit: I usually start by asking what you want filmed, where it is, and when you need it done. From there I can suggest a plan, confirm the date and give you a clear quote. I handle shooting and editing, or just shooting if you have your own editor. Happy to keep things simple and move fast when needed.

  • Short answer: South London.

Longer bit: I grew up in South East London, but my parents are from New Zealand, so moving to Auckland in 2025 felt like reconnecting with family and the media scene I’ve loved since I was super young. The nature, the pace, the people… it’s all pretty cool. It’s a good place to live and a good place to make work.
